Tingira Challenge


​​Paddlers from far and wide are invited to participate in our annual race, the Tingira Challenge.

The 2020 Tingira Challenge was held on Saturday, 14 November 2020, with an 8.00 am race start at Tingira Beach, Rose Bay. Surf ski, sea kayak and outrigger competitors had the choice of competing in the short course (eight kilometres) or long course (15 kms).

Magnificent trophies

Paddlers vied for our magnificent trophies:

  • The Tingira Challenge Trophy for First Male Surf Ski Long Course competitor: Jackson Collins

  • The Helen Jacobsohn Cup for First Female Surf Ski Long Course competitor: Georgia Sinclair

  • The Howard Geoffrey Bersten Memorial Trophy for First Surf Ski Short Course competitor: Cameron Spittle


Cash prizes

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Alexander Phillips of multi-award winning Sydney eastern suburbs real estate agency, Phillips Pantzer Donnelley, the 2020 Tingira Challenge  awarded the following cash prizes:

  • Male long course winner: $500 (Jackson Collins); second place getter: $300 (Noah Harrard); third place: $200 (Fletcher Armstrong)

  • Female long course winner: $500 (Georgia Sinclair), second place getter: $300 (Montana Murry); third place: $200 (Eliza Johnson)


Various non-cash prizes were awarded to winners of other race categories such as First Double (Male, Female and Mixed), First OC1 (Male and Female), First Sea Kayak (Male and Female), First Stand-Up Board paddler (Male and Female) and so on.

And every participant had the chance of winning a top notch door-prize, including a Go Pro
(three on offer!) and the latest paddle apparel from much-loved brand, Vaikobi.

The 2022 Race


Please note that the 2021 Tingira Challenge has been cancelled. Please save the date of 2 April  2022 for this year's race.
